Lucca is a city that offers visitors not only art and history, but also the possibility to walk through nature to discover the beautiful green areas that surround it.
Just outside the walls, there is the Serchio river park and the environmental education centre "Parole d’oro" that combines nature and history, located near the Nottolini Aqueduct.
Nottolini Park in Lucca: Centre of Environmental Education "Parole d’oro"
The environmental education centre "Parole d’oro" is located where the Nottolini Aqueduct begins to receive water form the springs, a great monumental work that unites tradition, history, art and nature. The project was completed in 1851 thanks to the Duchess of Lucca, Maria Luisa of Bourbon, by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini.
The peculiarity of the place is due to the beautiful green area surrounding it: woods and long routes in nature, for walkers or cyclists, lead to the discovery of the territory.
The recently renovated building “Casa del Fontaniere”, today the Environmental Education Centre, is where the association Il Tuffetto is based, which is responsible for organizing guided tours and educational activities within the natural park.
