An extraordinary red carpet to welcome the film festival which ideally joins the maintown Lucca to Versilia with stars of depth such as Oliver Stone, Willem Dafoe, Aki Kaurismaki, Olivier Assayas, Valeria Golino and Julien Temple. The structured program starts on April 2 and will affect numerous locations both in Lucca in Viareggio.
To each of the award-winning international film stars will be dedicated tributes: screenings, awards and meetings with the public. The protagonist of one of the main sections of the festival will be the film director Oliver Stone who will receive a lifetime achievement award and will hold a conversation on cinema. At the cinemas involved in the event will be held screenings of his most famous films.
With European films will be attending the festival the Finnish master Aki Kaurismaki, who won the silver Bear at the Berlinale in 2017 with 'The Other Side of Hope', the French filmmaker Olivier Assayas recently awarded in Cannes, Cristi Puiu master who opened the season of "New Romanian Cinema" and Bruno Monsaingeon among the greatest musical documentary filmmakers in the world.
The Italian actress Valeria Golino will be awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award, while another actress, director and screenwriter, Giada Colagrande, will speak for Women filmmakers in a public debate.
Among the stars of the festival everybody is looking foreward to the American actor Willem Dafoe who became famous for his portrayal of Sergeant Elias Grodin in the film 'Platoon' by Oliver Stone. He too will be honored with a career award.
Emerging artists will certainly find visibility in two prestigious international competitions, dedicated respectively to feature films and short films. The projections in the competition will be alternated to projections of out of competition Previews.
Among the protagonists of the festival could not be missing the music with a concert with the Yasujiro Ozu's masterpiece live sound of floating herbs History (1934), in co-production with the Luigi Boccherini Institute of Lucca and the Maxxi Museum in Rome and a special section reserved for the British director Julien Temple who tied inseparably his name to punk and rock music.
Section 360° will be one of the novelties of this year. At a stall located in Piazza Antelminelli Lucca, by using appropriate viewers, visitors will be able to experience free of charge the 360-degree view and enjoy the event documentation shots that will be provided daily.
After the success of the last edition it is back in the main squares of the old town of Lucca Cinema Night Effect: duing the whole week of festival the city is transformed into a set with artistic performances and unique sceneries, the best of which will be awarded with cash prizes.
Two exhibitions will frame the event, both curated by Alessandro Romanini.
From April 3 to May 1 - PunkDadaSituation, at the Ragghianti Foundation Lucca. The exhibit ties together three anniversaries that have changed the history of the last century: the 1917 with the birth of the Dada movement in 1977 with that of the Punk movement and 1957 with the formation of the Situationist International.
From 18 March to 30 April - Il viaggio di Mastorna (The Mastorna Journey). At GAMC, Viareggio. A tribute to Fellini involving collaboration between the Experimental Centre of Cinematography, Rome and the Istituto Luce. On display the executive boards of the scenes created by students, to his movie which had never been filmed.
