Also this year the four the coastal municipalities of Versilia have been awarded with the Blue Flag, the authoritative European recognition assigned by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) in cooperation with COBAT and Coou, mandatory consortia for the collection of batteries and used oil, and with the Carabinieri for Environmental Protection and the general Command of the Harbour.
The award, renovated this year to the municipalities of Viareggio, Camaiore, Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi is an important element of excellence which confirms that governments are working on a new image that aims to to adopt a package of measures for a compatible eco- tourism. The ambitious recognition is reserved for locations that demonstrate to have: good water quality, good quality of the coast services and security measures, environmental education, clean sea and beaches in good environmental conditions.
Among the international criteria to be met by the municipalities in order to be awarded with the Blue Flag there is the perfect waste water treatment, waste collection, pedestrian areas, cycle paths and green areas. As for the regional distribution of the awards, Tuscany this year is in second place after Liguria with 20 seaside municipalities and more than 60 seaside resorts.
