The new cultural center 'Le Macine' in Castelvecchio di Compito will be open to the public during the three weekends in which takes place of the Expo Ancient Camellias of Lucca.
The facility created by a major work of the Via del Molino former mill recovery will then be visited on 11-12, 18-19 and March 25 to 26 on time 15:00 / 18:00.
The cultural center, recently renovated and located in a strategic position in the Compitese area: near the village of the Camellias and Camellietum Compitese and natural sites and wetland areas of great value, will enable the visitors of the event dedicated to the camellia to know the history and traditions of the territory with particular reference to rural culture and, in particular, the pressing of the olives, and ancient crafts.
In addition to objects and tools of rural tradition, the center hosts the 'carpenter's Room' with all the work tools thanks to a donation of the Landi family and information panels about wetlands such as Lake of Gherardesca and the Oasis of Bottaccio. Also of interest are a few particularly valuable historic elements of the structure, which three grinders and the mellow, an oil decanting system through some tanks, in addition to being visible, have been highlighted by dedicated illumination.
